What is Direct Primary Care?
Direct primary care is a simpler way to have a family doctor. Instead of billing insurance, you pay one flat monthly membership directly to the practice. That membership gives you a real relationship with Dr. Rachel Hills and covers most of your primary care: as many visits as you need, longer appointments, and a direct line to your doctor by phone or secure message.

- Time with your doctor. Visits aren’t rushed. You’ll have time to ask questions and make a plan together.
- Easy access. Same-day or next-day appointments, and you can reach Dr. Hills directly when something comes up.
- No copays, no surprise bills. Your membership covers your primary care visits. Medications, lab work, and certain procedures are available at clear, reasonable prices, often far less than you’d pay elsewhere.

- Full-spectrum care. Prevention, sick visits, chronic conditions, weight management, menopause, and hormone care are all part of your membership.
About insurance and Medicare
The practice does not bill insurance or Medicare. This lets Dr. Hills work for you, not for an insurance company. Membership is not health insurance, so we recommend keeping coverage for emergencies, hospital stays, specialists, and imaging. Many members pair their membership with a high-deductible or catastrophic plan.
Medicare patients are welcome. Dr. Hills is opting out of Medicare, so Medicare members sign a simple private agreement for their primary care here. Consult your Medicare broker to find a plan that works for your needs within this model.
A steady, evidence-based approach to Family Medicine
Dr. Rachel Hills earned her medical degree from the Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine before completing her residency in Family Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle, where she also served as a resident teacher and small-group instructor for first-year medical students. That training grounds a clinical style that Dr. Hills describes simply: compassionate, evidence-based care built together with each patient, not delivered to them.
Since 2006, Dr. Hills has practiced Family Medicine, spending her early career in Seattle before relocating her practice to Golden, Colorado in 2017. Her clinical focus spans the full scope of Family Medicine — from preventive primary care and chronic disease management to women's health — with an emphasis on continuity, prevention, and collaborative goal-setting with patients and their families.
Beyond the exam room, Dr. Hills has remained active in medical education and professional service. She is a longstanding member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Colorado Academy of Family Physicians, and her clinical writing has appeared in the Annals of Emergency Medicine. In 2021, she was named a 5280 Top Doc in Family Medicine, a peer-nominated recognition of physicians in the Denver metro area.
Why I am opening a Direct Primary Care practice
I became a physician to care for people and help them stay well. Unfortunately, the structure of modern healthcare with insurance billing and high patient volumes makes that difficult. It creates short visits, crowded schedules and limited appointments. I want to get back to the foundation that great medicine requires.
This is why I am opening a Direct Primary Care practice. By working directly with my patients, I can build my practice around two things that matter most:
- Better access to your physician. When you have a concern, you will be able to reach me directly, whether by phone or secure message. Same-day or next-day appointments will be the norm, not the exception. You should not have to wait weeks to be seen or navigate a phone tree to speak with your doctor.
- More time with your physician. Visits will be unhurried giving us time to talk through your history, your questions, and your goals. We will address prevention as well as illness. Knowing you well allows me to give you better, more personalized care.
My patient panel will be small, allowing me to offer this level of attention to everyone I serve. It is about doing medicine the way it was meant to be practiced: with time, attention, and trust.
